Qingdao Day Route: Piers, Beer, and Red Roofs

German lanes, a pier, a beach lunch, and the brewery where the beer is hours old.

One compact day through China's strangest and most pleasant old town - red roofs, blue water, fresh beer.

The Day

Time Move Notes
08:30 Zhanqiao Pier The 1892 pier and Huilan Pavilion - go early, it empties out before 10:00.
09:30 Old town lanes + St. Michael's Church Red roofs and German facades; the church square is the postcard shot.
11:00 Badaguan district Eight avenues, each named for a tree - walk two or three, not all eight.
12:30 Seafood lunch near the beach Clams, grilled squid, and the local flatbread. Simple places beat fancy ones.
14:00 No. 1 Bathing Beach walk Even out of swim season, the sand-and-skyline view is worth the stop.
15:30 Tsingtao Brewery Museum The tour ends in the tasting room with unfiltered beer straight from the line - the whole point.
18:30 Signal Hill Park sunset Climb 20 minutes for the red-roof panorama over the bay.
Trade-off matrix

Every route is a set of trades — this one, made visible

Keep
The brewery tasting
Badaguan - two avenues well
Signal Hill at sunset
Cut instead
The beer festival grounds (August-only, crowded, pricier)
Laoshan mountain - it deserves its own half-day
The TV tower (same view, higher fee)

Click a row to isolate one trade; switch sides to read what you would give up on its own.

Where it breaks

Museum tickets sell out on summer weekends - book the brewery online the day before. August means beach crowds everywhere; June fog can grey out the whole panorama (check the fog forecast, locals track it). Rain backup: extend the brewery visit, add the naval museum next door, and push the pier to evening.
